Why Do Policeman Use Dogs?

Police use dogs to find drugs because their sense of smell is almost 50 times more sensitive than a human's. Drug dogs can search an area more quickly and accurately than a human police officer can. The police officer would have to search every inch and it could be dangerous. Not only is a dog's nose sensitive, it is also picky.

Dogs can smell a specific scent when there are many other scents around. Drug smugglers will try to disguise their drugs with other scents like perfume, talcum powder, food, or gasoline but the dogs find the drugs anyway. Drug dogs don't only use their noses either. They are intimidating and can cause criminals to surrender instead of fleeing or resisting. They are faster and stronger than a lot of humans so if the criminal does flee or resist they're able to catch the suspect and apprehend him until officers arrive.
